Unimec – Applying screw jacks in the world's first electric boat
Unimec is marking a significant step in the ongoing pursuit of innovation and sustainability and this step is shared by our partnership.
Unimec recently supplied four special-made screw jacks to a Norwegian shipping company with a strong reputation for its commitment to eco-friendly shipping. The project where these screw jacks will be used is one of the world’s first 100% electric ferryboat prototypes. A fact that makes Unimec, as a partner in ecological innovation, also important in the mobile sustainability transition.
In this project, the screw jacks’ function will serve the replacement of discharged batteries by recharged batteries in the ferryboats, complying with all safety during the process. Due to the large physical capacity of these batteries, each of these screw jacks has been developed to lift up to 60 tons, so that the operation reaches the desired efficiency and safety parameters.
The custom design includes a technical solution that allows the monitoring of temperature conditions, integrated in a special nut with a temperature probe, developed to assess the overheating of the battery in cold environments.
In this way, Unimec shapes the future of electric mobility, adapting solutions to the needs of this shipping company, finding new methods for the future of sustainable maritime transport.
