Artificial Intelligence: Future of Industry?

We can characterize artificial intelligence (AI) as the ability of a machine to replicate skills similar to those of a human being, such as reasoning, learning, planning, and creativity.

We are currently living through the 4th Industrial Revolution, known as Industry 4.0, a concept that represents the integration of different technologies and disruptive methods, with the aim of promoting the digitalisation of activities and productive processes, improving and increasing their efficiency and productivity.

One of the technologies within this revolution is Artificial Intelligence, which encompasses others such as machine learning, artificial neural networks, computer vision, intelligent robotics, autonomous vehicles, among others.

Answering the question presented in the title, artificial intelligence is not just the future, but the present. Its potential is increasingly being explored and its impact is actively shaping our perception and interaction with the world in general.

We asked some of REIMAN's collaborators for their opinion on this matter.

Currently, in the industrial sector, artificial intelligence is already being applied in various ways:

  • Pattern Recognition: artificial intelligence devices that identify patterns in databases, preventing possible failures in real time so that early maintenance can be carried out;

  • Machine Learning: an approach that focuses on the ability of AI systems to learn and improve from data knowledge, using algorithms to identify patterns and make decisions while being exposed to more information;

  • Intelligent Robotics: Integration of AI systems into industrial robots to perform tasks autonomously and collaboratively with operators;

  • Intelligent Production/Distribution Lines: Automated processes, equipped with sensors and AI systems, monitor and optimise production and distribution lines, reducing waste and increasing efficiency.

In addition to these applications, artificial intelligence is used in industry in various other ways, all with the aim of improving and making production processes more efficient, while reducing operating costs and faults.

Ultimately, the success of artificial intelligence in the industrial sector will depend on the ability to balance the benefits and risks associated with its use. A cautious approach is essential to ensure that technological advancement is aligned with ethics, safety and sustainability.

The key to success lies in the harmony between nature, artificial intelligence and human beings.
