Collaborative Robots (Cobots) in Industry 4.0

Collaborative Robots | OMRON

There are numerous possible definitions about collaborative robots (cobots), but the best way to understand what characteristics they comprise is to look at the ISO 10218-1 and 10218-2 standards (associated with cobots) which tell us the following:

  • They have the ability to make safely monitored stops.
  • They have speed and separation.
  • They have power limitations and also strength limitations.
  • They have manual orientation.

All these capacities of the cobots are managed through sensors and control systems with peripheral devices. Another interesting feature is that any industrial robot can be transformed into a collaborative robot according to each need.

This is a "system" that emerges with the main objective of uncomplication. That is, to combine different processes of integration, programming, and operation without major complex processes through automation. However, there are still some improvements to be implemented, namely, to be able to increase the productivity level of these devices.

It is important to note that these are not independent robots and need, in most cases, to be accompanied by someone. That is why they are known as "collaborative" robots.

The flexibility of the cobots makes them very attractive. As they are robots with more compact size than normal, they are very light and therefore easy to transport and adapt to different situations and contexts. In addition, they can also perform operations of great precision and that require many repetitions and movements of loads, which greatly facilitates and relieves the work of the employees. Whenever the operation does not require direct human intervention, these robots are the solution.

OMROM has created a line of collaborative robots with a set of features improved from those already on the market. Get to know them:

  1. Versatility and adaptability

They are totally adaptable robots that can therefore perform various functions from machine supervision, loading, assembling, gluing, etc.

  1. Simple Programming

They do not require any type of command or start codes, which makes them faster and easier to start.

  1. Security

They facilitate the work of employees in that they have the ability to take heavy loads, perform operations that require a lot of precision, etc. and therefore ensure the safety of the employees who "save" these more delicate tasks and with a higher risk. In addition, these cobots satisfy not only ISO 10218 but also ISO/TS 15066.

  1. Intelligence

OMROM cobots have an intelligent vision system that allows them to recognize standards, position objects and identify different barcodes.

The mark ensures that these cobots assure total power of precision and resolution together with the human mind. Thanks to their joint collaboration these robots allow to achieve high levels of efficiency in the most varied industrial applications.

In this context, Soft Robotics has developed a set of solutions that incorporate the cobots. We talk about the "Cobots Kits" specially created and developed for fast deployments. The CoDrive controller is the brand specific device that was developed to "orient" the mGrip that allows this clamp system to work together with the collaborative robots.
