What is Industrial Automation?
The Automation concept has as its main objective to transform a typically manual operation into an automatic one.
In industry this concept takes special interest since it introduces several advantages in the organization.
Industrial automation is present in all the automatic mechanisms that perform a task replacing one or a team of operators. Mainly interesting in repetitive tasks, demanding at human level, or even dangerous to health.
With this approach organizations offer their operators better working conditions, and tasks where they really add value, taking advantage of their intelligence and not just their motor skills.
And at the same time they can optimize their production processes, and improve their operational results.
Main Advantages of an Automated Industry?
- Increased Productivity and Capacity
By automating a certain task or set of tasks in your manufacturing process, the execution time of the task(s) will be constant throughout the production time, you will not necessarily need to take rest breaks, and you can even execute the task(s) faster.
- Reduced Production Cost
The production costs with the use of automated equipment in the vast majority of cases are more advantageous. Since the mandatory optimization and standardization of processes, combined with increased productivity, reduces the production cost per piece, rework, and scrap.
- Process and Product Quality Assurance
The standardization and repeatability of the tasks performed in a piece of equipment or set of automated equipment allow us to guarantee a quality standard in the final product.
However, it is increasingly normal for this equipment to be equipped with additional control and verification systems for each task, and for the result, which are also automatic.
This approach minimizes to the maximum the non-conformities in the final Client.
- Increased Safety and Cost Reduction with its absence
Performing a certain task or set of tasks automatically immediately reduces the risk exposure of any operator.
Since any automatic equipment/machine in European territory must comply with the Directive 2006/42/EC, commonly known as the Machinery Directive, which guarantees it.
This reality reduces costs with insurance companies, work accidents and bad reputation.
